Form 1099-G Information
Form 1099-G is NOT a tax bill. Don’t pay the amount shown on the form. Form 1099-G is used to report payments made to you by a government entity.
Utah reports a state income tax refund paid or credited to you in the previous tax year on Form 1099-G. The Tax Commission also is required to report this information to the IRS.
The refund amount may be for several years. Refunds are reported in the year received.
You may have to claim this amount as income on your federal income tax return. Review the federal return instructions for reporting state income tax refunds, or visit the Internal Revenue Service’s web site at www.irs.gov.
Form 1099-G is also used by the Department of Workforce Services to report any unemployment compensation you received.
