If you use a professional tax preparer to complete your tax returns, you can ask the preparer to electronically file BOTH your state and federal returns. This will assure the greatest accuracy of filing, speed any refund you have coming, and provide you with a receipt for filing.
The IRS provides a search engine to help you locate the nearest authorized e-file provider. Just enter your home or work ZIP Code, and you'll get a list of nearby e-file providers. Click here for this service.
The electronic filing software zips your return information in separate packets. These packets are transmitted to the IRS in one taxpayer "envelope." The IRS functions as an electronic post office for the participating states, which receive and process the state electronic "envelopes." You do not send a paper copy of your return to the IRS or the Utah State Tax Commission.
If you owe tax, you can still e-file early and pay any balance due postmarked by April 15. Just choose the payment method that works best for you:
Utah State Tax Commission
210 North 1950 West
Salt Lake City, UT 84134-0266
If you are entitled to a refund, it can be electronically deposited in your bank or credit union account.
IRS and Utah will acknowledge receipt of your return within 48 hours of submitting your electronic return.
