E-Filing With a Tax Preparer
What is E-Filing?
If you have a professional tax preparer complete your tax returns, ask the preparer to electronically file BOTH your Utah and federal returns. This will assure accuracy, speed your refund and provide a filing receipt.
Find an E-File Provider
Click here and enter your Zip Code to find the nearest authorized IRS e-file provider.
How Does Electronic Filing Work?
The electronic filing software transmits your return information to the IRS. The IRS receives and processes the electronic file.
You do not send a paper copy of your return to the IRS or the Utah State Tax Commission.
Do You Owe Tax?
If you owe additional tax, you can still file electronically early and then pay your balance due by April 17, 2012. Choose one of these payment methods:
- TaxExpress – Click here to pay with your credit card (American Express, MasterCard or Discover) or an electronic check; or
- By Mail – Send your payment with the Utah Form TC-547, Individual Income Tax Return Payment Coupon. Write the tax year and TC-40 on your check or money order and mail with your coupon to the following address by midnight, April 17, 2012:
Utah State Tax Commission
210 North 1950 West
Salt Lake City, UT 84134-0266
Refund Direct Deposit
Your can have your refund electronically deposited into your checking or savings account at your bank or credit union. This method is safer and faster than receiving a check.
To direct deposit your refund, provide your tax return preparer with the bank routing and account number. Click here for information on locating the routing and account numbers.
